Chain Of Custody

CHANGE IN GOVERNMENT TIMBER PROCUREMENT POLICY

From the 1st April 2009, ALL timber and timber products should come from independently verifiable legal and sustainable sources or are FLEGT-licensed (Forest Law Enforced, Governance and Trade).

This is a change from the Government policy of only RECOMMENDING and is now a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT for all Government procurement, PFI projects and other public sector bodies such as Local Authorities, which will include joint ventures with public/private partnerships.

Compliancy is best gained by providing FSC or PEFC certified timber, which proves a 'legal' chain of custody from the forest to the end-user.

There are currently numerous UK trussed rafter manufacturers who rely on their suppliers certifications and do NOT have their own Chain Of Custody accreditation and are therefore operating outside of the current legislation.

Since 2005, the Carver Group including ENGINEERED TIMBER SOLUTIONS LTD have been assessed and certified for both FSC (Certificate SGS-COC-2054) and PEFC (Certificate SGS-PEFC/COC-0042) under accreditation from SGS QUALIFOR.

Engineered Timber Solutions Ltd are also full members of the TRUSSED RAFTER ASSOCIATION (TRA) and also have ISO 9001:2000 certification through BVQI (BUREAU VERITAS QUALITY INTERNATIONAL).
