Orangery extensions are becoming increasingly common. We see many of these designs land on our desks here at ETS. They have little impact on the existing property and often they don’t require the time-consuming wrangling with planning departments. So, this method of extending your home is both quick and easy.

The design can include large roof windows or lanterns, plus with glazed walls you can really bring the outside in. It creates a light and airy space which can be enjoyed by the whole family. Adding an orangery to your kitchen or living room can change the look and feel of your home and give you the additional space you crave while adding significant value to your property.

No more Steel Beams

Orangery roofs are often specified with loose timber and steel beams for the roof construction, due to this design the roof can often be unnecessarily complicated and expensive. Lantern weights are commonly more than 500kg and therefore must have the appropriate support in place.

Our metal web joists provide the perfect solution to these requirements. Offering superb levels of strength, our metal web joists can negate the need for steel support beams. This simplifies your supply chain and reduces costs.

Our metal web joists compared to solid timber or alternative engineered timber beams, have the benefit of being lightweight and strong, resulting in a solution that’s easy to handle and install.

By using the latest PAMIR design software by our partner MiTek, it allows the designer to manipulate the joist end details to suit intricate design challenges that are commonplace in orangery design. Alternative products cannot offer this versatility.

These intricate details include, but are not limited to:

• Parapet wall details
• Hanging from ledgers fixed to the existing structure
• Fixing into steels to create openings into the new structure
• Soffit/gutter detail requirements
